Most children with healthy appetites are ready to eat almost anything that is offered them and a child rarely dislikes food 1 it is badly cooked.
The way a meal is cooked and served is most important and an 2 served meal will improve a child's appetite. Never ask a child 3 he likes or dislikes a food and never discuss likes and dislikes in front of him or allow 4 else to do so. If the father says he hates fat meat or the mother refuses vegetables in the child's hearing he is 5 to copy this procedure. Take it 6 . Granted that he likes everything and he probably will. Nothing healthful should be omitted for the meal because of a supposed dislike. At meal times it is a good idea to give a child a small portion and let him come back for a second helping rather than give him as 7 as he is likely to eat all at once. Do not talk too much to the child 8 meal times, but let him get on with his food, and do not allow him to leave the table immediately after a meal or he will soon learn to swallow his food so he can hurry back to his toys. Every year just after Christmas the January Sales start. All the shops reduce their prices and for two weeks, they are full of people looking for bargains. My husband and I do not normally go to the sales as we don't like crowds and in any case are short of money as we have to buy lots of Christmas presents.
Last year, however, I took my husband with me to the sales at the large shop in the center of London. We both needed some new clothes and were hoping to find a television set. When we got to station, we split up. So I left my husband and started looking around the shops. Unfortunately all the clothes were in very large sizes and so were not suitable for me. But I did buy a television at a very cheap price, so I felt quite pleased with myself.
When I arrived at the station, my husband was not there. So I sat down in a nearby cafe to have a cup of tea. I quickly finished my tea when I saw my husband and went out to meet him. About 35% of all high school graduates in America continue their education in an institution of higher learning. The word college is used to refer to either a college or a university. These institutions offer four-year programs that lead to a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor Science (B.S.) degree. Some students attend a junior college (providing only a two-year program) for one to two years before entering a four-year college as a sophomore (二年级生) or junior (三年级生).
It is generally easier to be accepted at a state university than at a private one. Most private schools require strict entrance examinations and a high grade point average (GPA), as well as specific college prep classes in high school. Private schools cost considerably more than state colleges and famous private schools are very expensive. Poorer students can sometimes attend, however, by earning scholarships. Some college graduates go on to earn advanced masters or doctoral degrees in grad (graduate) school. Occupations in certain fields such as law or medicine require such advanced studies.
Since college costs are very high, most students work at part-time jobs. Some have full-time jobs and go to school part-time. Often some will take five or more years to complete a four-year program because of money / job demands on their time.
While the college and work demands take up the great part of a student's time, most still enjoy social activities. Sports, dances, clubs, movies, and plays are all very popular. However, gathering together for long, philosophical talks at a favorite meeting place on or near the university is probably the most popular activity.

Yellow fever is a disease in warm lands that is found mainly along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. It was first noticed in America, but may have come from Africa and reached the New World soon after Columbus. Yellow fever was one of the most feared diseases in the United States, where many died in repeated outbreaks. An outbreak, which was to lead to surprising development, was one that happened in Cuba during the Spanish-American War.
An army group under Walter Reed was sent there in June 1900 with orders to give special attention to questions about the cause and prevention of yellow fever. In many experiments, he proved the truth of an idea advanced in 1881 by a Cuban doctor that the city type of mosquitoes passed on the disease. They are born in pools of quiet and warm water, within a short distance of people's homes.
So a general came to Havana with orders from the United States government to dry up these pools. He carried out the task so well that the mosquitoes disappeared. Yellow fever never returned to Havana. A few years later the same general successfully repeated this operation in Panama and in this way made the building of the Panama Canal possible. It all seemed so simple. End the mosquitoes, end the disease. Man even began to dream of getting rid of yellow fever from the world.
